Ask me about the locals

So you’re thinking about getting married in Tekapo? This is totally my patch! I’m based in Fairlie, just half an hour away from Tekapo. Maybe you live here too… in which case you might already know all of this, and maybe you should take a look at my post on getting your marriage licence or why I didn’t cry during my in laws renewal of vows ceremony.

But if you’re not living in the Mackenzie, you might be relying on the businesses and craftspeople you can find on google, or maybe you’re thinking of bringing a lot with you?

Firstly I’m totally not dissing businesses you will find on google! You will find some amazing businesses. Like Tekapo Weddings and Events. They’re super awesome (and based in Tekapo – although you might have guessed that from the name). From them in particular you can hire so much for your wedding. Everything from seating and a beautiful archway for the ceremony to tables and chairs and amazing decorations for your reception. And they do wedding planning too!

There’s an amazing amount of accommodation in Tekapo. Everything from youth hostels to resort accommodation… and my personal favourites HEAPS of holiday homes. Two businesses I know who offer a range of holiday homes, and can help you make multiple bookings if required are Carroll and Craig at Tekapo Holiday Homes ( and Graeme at Park Brae (

My neighbour in Fairlie makes and decorates all the locals’ wedding cakes and comes with rave reviews from everybody who has ever used her services.

Another couple of Fairlie locals, Viv and Barb, do excellent catering – from nibbles for after the ceremony (which I have had the pleasure of enjoying several times) to a full sit down meal for your reception.

As well as our local senior ladies marching team – they do catering (and have done for years) to fundraise for their marching trips.

Haley at Remarkable Beauty (check out her Facebook page Remarkable Beauty New Zealand) and Helen at Fairlie Skin Therapy, both in Fairlie, both do amazing make up. They will happily travel to Tekapo and beyond. And seriously I’ve seen their make-up look stunning on brides and bridesmaids so many times!

Same goes for hairdressers from House of Hair in Pleasant Point (see their Facebook Page House of Hair) and Divine Hair in Fairlie (and their Facebook page Divine Hair Fairlie). Happy to travel to Tekapo and beyond and they both always do gorgeous up dos!

Photographers – oh my you are spoilt for choice here! Simply Inspired and Artistic Weddings Tekapo are the first two that spring to mind. But whatever your budget and whatever ‘look’ you’re after I’m sure I’ll be able to give you a few ideas!

Oh and just to be clear, none of these businesses even knew I was writing this post, so none of them have even had the opportunity to bribe me with free haircuts and bottles of bubbly. I really am just recommending those whose work I have seen and admired!

Wherever you’re planning to marry… congratulations and happy planning xxlake tekapo
